The way these coin testers tell the differences between a real and fake coin is all about the properties. The original way to tell the differences between a real and fake coin is by the weight, diameter, thickness, and the magnetic property. In the 1970's to present day they compressed codes onto coin acceptors that could read codes imprinted into the surface of coins that were developed to eliminate counterfeits and provide a means to uniquely identify a coin to eliminate fake coins. There also has to be a certain amount of metal in each coin. By the time you put into making a fake coin you might as well just get a real coin.

Vending machines can tell the difference between real coins and fake coins because they have different types of materials, Such as a real coin is made out of metal and aluminum, but a fake ones sometimes are plastic, cardboard, and glass, with the amount painted on it, thats another factor. A real coin doesn't have paint on it like some of the fake coins do. Also it has to be the same size like if I was to make a fake coin I would have to make sure that it was the perfect size as a quarter or else it would detect it and spit it out. Also for quarters and dimes, you would have to have the ridges on the side or else it might not take it. Also the machine wouldn't take a fake coin because the coin would have to have a so called “Face”. Such as if you feel the real coin you can feel the picture on the coin come off of the quarter, so that also might be a factor on why it won't take a fake coin.

We think the machines can tell the difference between a real and fake coin by the way the coin was made. We think that the place that makes coins probably has a special item (like a liquid) put into the copper. This item is more than likely only able to be accessed in the factory. The machine is more than likely programmed to detect this item and find out if it is real or not.

We think that the testers can tell the difference in a fake coin and a real coin because of the properties in them. The fake coin might weigh less or more than the real one. It could even be a different color, texture, or size. The tester could have a sensor or scanner that can tell the fake coin from the real one.

The basic principle for coin detection is to test the physical properties of the coin. It evaluates the coin based on its weight, size, and/or magnetism, and then sends an appropriate electrical signal via its output connection. The next step is generally performed by the coin changer.

Electronic coin testers can tell the differences in fake coins from real coins by the properties. The properties in the fake coins can be different by material and/or the print on the coin. Our theory is there may be a laser confirming whether or not the entry is a real or fake coin. The laser will detect the coins and either reject them or accept them. In summary the coin tester can tell if the coin is fake or

Electronic coin testers in vending machines can instantly identify the properties of real coins and reject fake coins because of the chemicals in which the coin has within it.A fake coin has a different type of chemical than a real coin, the machine is made to only accept 4 certain types of chemicals which are only in real coins. We think that there is also a detector on the inside of the machine in which you insert the coin. When you insert the coin it triggers a mechanism in which spits the coin back out the slot. The machine can tell the difference of a fake coin and a real coin by the characteristic properties of a coin. The coin slot is just like a machine that only accepts dollars, when you insert the dollar the wrong way the machine automatically thinks the dollar is fake and spits it back out. This is how we think the vending machines tell the difference between a real coin and a fake coin.

I always thought that the coin machines could tell the difference between real and fake coins by scaning the coins for th ridges, shape, and weight but I learned that I was wrong. It actually works when you insert a coin, it rolls past a series of electromagnets. These electromagnets create an electromagnetic energy field. Any metal object like a coin will disturb this field. Quarters pennies dimes, nickels and fake coins affect the field differently.
