I was assigned to the article "the dancing rocks of California's death valley" By: Meera Dolasia on 11/22/09. This article is mainly about rocks being moved at yards at a time. Not only pebbles, but big boulders that weigh up to 500lbs. California's death valley is located in the Mohave desert which could very well be the reason for these rocks to be moving. The location might be part of it because it's extreme temperatures, and it's varied altitude that ranges from 282 feet below sea level and 11,000 feet above sea level. Since this mystery happens on one of the flattest area of the valley, the sliding is not caused by slopes or hills. The most reasonable theory has come from Professor Reed and his team of scientists from Hampshire College in Massachusetts. According to the author,"They believe that the below freezing nightly temperatures of Racetrack Playa turn the surface water to ice. When accompanied by the right amount of wind, the thin ice acts as a sledge, helping the rocks roll across the sand. Since the ice sheets are thin, they often break up while the rocks are rolling, explaining the willy-nilly routes of the rocks." Some others believe that there are different explanations like park rangers move them. However, nobody knows for sure because no one as seen them roll. I chose this article because it caught my interest and I wanted to learn more about how rocks could move. This article will help me in the future because if I ever go to the Death Valley I will know what the marks in the ground are from and this will help me if I ever wanted to study for a theory. I feel that I have learned a lot from this article. I learned that even 500 pound rocks can be moved and it still be a mystery and somethings are going to just be mysteries. Before I read this article I didn't really know about the dancing rocks but I remember hearing about them before and being really interested and wanting to learn more.

I will be reviewing the article “Was the Red Planet Once Blue?” written by Meera Dolasia. This article is about at one time there may have been water on Mars. If you like at Mars now, it may not seem that there has ever or will be water on the planet but that could have been different billions of years ago.

The article I’m reviewing this week is Snorkeling Amidst Jellyfish by Meera Dolasia. According to the author” Jumping into a lake with millions of jellyfish may sound worse than swimming with sharks and, for the most part it is, unless you happen to be snorkeling in Jellyfish Lake - located in the Eli Malk island of The Republic of Palau, in the Pacific Ocean, 500 miles from the Philippines.” We’ll no matter how safe it sounds I will not jump into a lake full of jellyfish.
