Since, clouds and ozone are two components within our atmosphere which help retain our heat, it is important for us to understand their roles in trapping this heat energy. Therefore, your job is to explain the role clouds and ozone play in keeping our planet nice and toasty for life.
The Earth receives energy from the sun by radiation. Although the sun releases a huge amount of energy, the Earth receives only about two-billionths of this energy. This radiant energy is converted into thermal energy after it is absorbed by the Earth's surface. Without our atmosphere, this re-emitted thermal energy would escape into space once the planet no longer faced the sun. Therefore our evening temperatures would be to cold to sustain life.
Since, clouds and ozone are two components within our atmosphere which help retain our heat, it is important for us to understand their roles in trapping this heat energy. Therefore, your job is to explain the role clouds and ozone play in keeping our planet nice and toasty for life.

We really didn't know what roles the ozone and the clouds did until we did the research. After we got done we found out that the roles they do are,

The study of clouds, where they occur, and their characteristics, play a role in the understanding of climate change. Low, thick clouds usually reflect solar radiation and cool the surface of the Earth. High, thin clouds usually deposit incoming solar radiation; at the same time, they trap some of the outgoing radiation emitted by the Earth and radiate it back downward, thereby warming the surface of the Earth.20% is absorbed by ozone, clouds, and the atmospheric gases. These are some of the very important reasons why the clouds of the earth and the ozone of the atmosphere is conflicted on the earth's heat resources, and why we have it for survival.

This week our blog question asks us what role the clouds and the ozone play in keeping the atmosphere nice and warm. If a planet has no atmosphere, all of the sunlight which strikes it reaches the surface, and usually, 90% or more of that is absorbed, and 10% or less is reflected back into space. However, if the planet has an atmosphere, a cloud-filled atmosphere, part of the sunlight will be reflected into space before even reaching the surface. As an example of how this works, the Earth and Moon are the same distance from the Sun, within 1/4% accuracy, and have the same amount of sunlight falling on them, but the Moon reflects only about 10% of the sunlight that it receives, and absorbs about 90% of it, while the Earth, because of its extensive cloud cover, reflects about 30% of the sunlight that it receives, and absorbs only about 70%. The values for the Moon vary because the highlands are lighter, and reflect more light, and the maria are darker, and reflect less light, and the values for the Earth vary according to the local weather ,but these average values are used for a general comparison. As a result of the difference in absorption, the Earth only receives about 2/3 as much sunlight during the day as the Moon does, and the Moon becomes much hotter, reaching temperatures in excess of 250°F, which is over 150F° hotter than normal Earth temperatures. We as humans are very lucky to have an atmosphere like this especially in the winter, because if we didn't the temperatures would drop dramatically and make it extremely cold. For example, In the winter we might only get about 9-10 hours of sunlight but have 12-14 hours of darkness. That doesn't give the atmosphere enough time to trap the heat in and keep it toasty for us, But since we have such a great atmosphere we don't have to worry about that.

The clouds keep earth warm by their height the wispy high clouds they are the ones that keep the heat in. The low clouds that come out during the day and give us shade they actually let the heat go through them and go to the high clouds and that is why the low clouds give us shade. At night they are high so they keep the warm energy down close to the earth and that keeps the heat in the atmosphere. The ozone helps keep the heat in because of the UV rays that comes through and the air and warm air that is coming from earth.

The role that clouds and ozone have is to keep in the heat so that it does not all escape at night so we do not have to dress like Eskimos when we go to bed. The role of the Clouds is is to help hold in the thermal energy same as the atmosphere. The role of the ozone is to keep the U.V. Rays from getting through to the earth and if more and more and more get through then more and more people will get skin cancer. Also when you see darker clouds that usually means that it is going to rain. All that the Ozone simply does is protect us from the harmful U.V. Rays.

The ozone and the clouds both play a very important role in keeping the earth at at least a reasonable temperature. The ozone acts as a shield to the sun's harmful rays. The sun's rays hit the ozone, and although some do penetrate and come to earth, it's not enough to really damage anything or give everyone skin cancer, though it may leave a nasty sunburn. The ozone blocks out most of those rays, that if received by earth would cause skin cancer and tumors, and would most likely, eventually kill us. The clouds do relatively the same thing. In the daytime the clouds absorb some of those rays that slipped through the ozone and hold them in. In the nighttime, they contain some of the escaping energy to help keep the earth stay warm. If we did not have the ozone and the clouds we would probably not be here right now, so we need to take care of the ozone and recycle, or use less harmful chemicals and materials. Together we can change the world!!!!

Without clouds all of the suns U. V. rays would hit the earth and it would be a little bit to toasty. But with too much cloud cover the planet wouldn't receive enough heat and wouldn't be toasty enough. The ozone also plays a big role in help life survive here. This is because the ozone deflects most of the sun's U.V. rays. Without it the earth would receive too much U.V. rays and all of the humans would receive skin cancer and other sicknesses. Also, the animals and plants would have a hard time surviving because the water would evaporate very quickly. These are the roles that the clouds and ozone layer play in making the earth nice and toasty for life.

Clouds and the ozone both play very very important roles in keeping our temperature were it need to be to sustain plant and animal life. First lets talk about the clouds, clouds help keep some of the radiation that the Sun lets off from hitting the surface of the Earth. If clouds didn't do this then more of the Sun's radiation would get through. The ozone also plays a part in the heating and cooling of our atmosphere. It helps in the heating just like the clouds do but the sunlight actually goes through the ozone unlike the clouds do. It basically acts like a filter because it filters out some of U.V. Rays that the Sun puts off. If we didn't have an ozone the Earth would be just like Mars, very hot were the sunlight hits the planet and very cold were the sunlight doesn't hit the planet. The ozone also helps the Earth warm at night because it helps keep in the heat until morning comes. As you can tell there are a lot of roles that our atmosphere plays in our weather.

If we did not have an atmosphere all the sun light about 90 present or more would be absorbed and 10 present of it would bounce back in to space. However, if the planet has an atmosphere, particularly a thick, cloud-filled atmosphere part of the sunlight will be reflected into space before even reaching the surface. The clouds and the ozone the sun will not burn up the earth and it wont be to hot and will still have life one it and it should be nice and toasty for the rest of our lives.

The ozone and clouds are a big part of keeping the heat and thermal energy around the earth during the day and at night let some of the thermal energy out during the night. The ozone plays a big part in the in keeping the heat and thermal energy near the earth. The ozone lets in 2 billionths of the heat energy from the sun. When the earth turns away from the sun the thermal energy escapes in to the atmosphere when the plants don't need it no more. The clouds reflect 25% of the suns harmful rays back in to the atmosphere. Part of the clouds role is to absorb some of the atmosphere gases the ozone does the same thing as the clouds. Some of the clouds are mostly of water from the lakes , and ponds from evaporation from the sun to the clouds. When the clouds are ready they let down water back into or ponds , and lakes. 50% of the sun light is absorbed by the Earth's surface.
