If you have ever half-submerged a straight stick into water, you have probably noticed that the stick appears bent at the point it enters the water.  However, when you remove the stick from the water it is straight again.  Is this magic or is there a scientific explanation?  Please explain

The stick appears bent bent because the water makes the stick appear larger. This happens because the water is magnifying it. Tjis is not magic. It is just reflection.

The stick appears to be bent in the water because of refraction. Refraction is when an object goes under the water, the surface refracts the light which seems to make the stick "bend".

When you put a stick in the water the stick might look like it is bent at the point that you put it in but it is not.The stick is probably reflecting into the water , and the part of the stick that is under water looks bigger because the water is kind of like a magnifine glass. And the part that is out of the water reflects onto the stick in the water making it look like it is bent.

The reason the the stick appears to be bent is that the water refracts the light therefor the stick appears to be bent. The scientific reason is that the water refracts the light.

When the stick hits the water it looks bent beacause the water is moving rapidly and the stick takes up more matter than the water can keep up with. Also the water makes the stick look bent, for the fact that the water is forming around the stick which makes it look bent.

The way the stick looks isn't magic.It isn't magic because, of the way you look at it. If you look at it from an angle it looks bent because, of the light hitting the stick and water at a degree. If you moved to the other side of the stick the submerged part will look like it moved, but it didn't.

We think that the reason that the stick appears to be bent is because the light bends objects in the water.Also the light reflects off of the object and forms a bent image in the water.

The light is bent a speical way tht when you enter the object into the surface of the water since the light is bent into the water it will allow the object to look like it bent but it is really not.

We think it does this because when the stick hits the water it makes ripples in the water and the light bounce off the ripples in a different direction. thats why it appears to be bent.

We think there is a scientific reason for this because in the water light waves are coming in differently than in the air because the water is thicker. So the light can't come in as easly.

We know that it is a scientific explanation. We think that when the stick is placed in the water the water might be moving creating an image that might appear to you as bent. It might appear this way because the water creates a flow in which makes the image appear different then it is when its not in the water.

the stick would look all blury becuase the waves would make the light bbounce off the waves in all diffrent derections making the stick look bent.

    A tornado hit a man's house, and he was thrown into a fescue field miles away.He was all alone, and scared becuase it was dark and he could not see anything.There was no moon out in the sky.He felt on the ground until he found a box of matches with 2 matches inside.     He decided to take the matches and use them to light the wick on the lantern.

    No, I don’t think there is a high chance of an earthquake like the one in 1811-12 to occur in my lifetime. I think this because the boot of Missouri is not right next to a fault line and fault lines increase chances of earthquakes. I also think this because this other earthquake occurred almost 200 years ago which explains that is was a very long time before my lifetime so I think another one will not occur until after my lifetime.
